Ring Of Bells

The first time I can find the Ring of Bell’s is when Mr. Phillip Jones is advertising in the Shrewsbury Chronicle dated Friday 31st July 1846,

In Dawley.

All that newly erected and substantially built Public
House, with garden and premises, situate on the south-
east side of the road leading from Dawley Bank to
Dawley Green, known by the sign of “The Ring of
Bells,” and now in the occupation of Mr. Philip Jones.
The House consists of a roomy Kitchen, parlour,
bar and pantry on the ground floor, with excellent
arched cellar underneath, and bed rooms
over and immediately adjoining the house, and
at the back thereof is a large and beautiful
garden, with yard, piggeries, malt room, and
numerous other conveniences.
Possession of this lot may be had at Christmas
next.

Philip Jonse died in 1862 and was buried on the 10th July 1862 at Dawley, his wife must have taken over the pub because in 1863 she is advertising in the Post Office directory.

By 1870 Slaney Callear had taken over the pub, he is advertising in Kelly's directory.

At some time in the 1880’s Stanley Callear moved to the Queen’s Head, Dawley Bank.
